Blue Romero called ahead of time as promised and he showed up right on time. He explained exactly what he was going to do and diagnosed the issue quickly. It turned out the power issue was related to a tripped AFCI breaker in the electrical panel in the back of the house which I totally missed. I was not even charged for the service. Blue was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was patiently answering my questions while going through the process. I felt very comfortable with him and most importantly my issue was resolved very quickly. I would definitely call them again for further electrical issues.

Our first time with A Team Home Services and everything was great. Michael arrived on time, was very polite and professional. He was able to diagnose our electrical problem in a few minutes, had everything on his van to complete the necessary repairs and was done in a very timely manner. As an additional item, we had Michael check the breaker and wiring for a window AC unit and he took care of that for us as well. Excellent service experience. Will definitely call the A Team when needed in the future. Highly recommend.

20 times better than Salt! The office was able to offer a deal to waive the 29 dispatch fee, the guys were on time and respectful of the house and they were able to see and fix the problem without having to replace a breaker for my master bedroom not turning on. They will be back next week to replace the outlets that were damaged because water had gotten into them as well as take out and plug up some lighting fixtures for me, thank you to all the guys that came out to my location

Wow, a company that answers the phone 24/7, and with a real person! I called after-hours, not knowing what to expect, and was so surprised and happy to hear Sarah answer the phone! We told her the problem and that we wanted to talk to Jason because the breaker he put in had tripped and we couldn’t get it to flip back on. Sarah asked me to hold while she called Jason on his cell. When she came back, she said Jason would be out at 10am the next morning. Jason began his careful investigation and found the problem! A contractor’s nail had hit a wire. The new breaker had done its job by not allowing us to flip it back on, thus possibly preventing a fire. Jason is part carpenter, as well as an accomplished electrician! He had to cut thru sheet rock so he could do the necessary re-wiring. And then he even cleaned everything up! Jason made us feel like he cared more about US than about just doing a job. He was totally professional but also compassionate and understanding about our needs. A Team Home Services, once again, you exceeded expectations! We’re so thankful the Lord led us to find your company.

I explained my problem circuit breaker to the technician. He listened to me and then he looked at the breaker in the breaker box. He said that it probably was weakened from age and suggested replacement. I agreed. He changed it and cleaned up. Job well done!

Upgrade Your Electrical Panel and Improve Home Safety

Homes in Austin are using more electricity than ever before. From EV chargers and high-efficiency HVAC systems to smart appliances and home offices, modern power demands often exceed what older electrical panels were designed to handle.

If your home still operates on a 100-amp panel, or worse, an outdated fuse box, you may be experiencing limitations that affect performance and safety. Upgrading your electrical panel provides:

  • Increased electrical capacity
  • Reduced fire risk
  • Improved system reliability
  • Better compatibility with modern appliances
  • Increased property value

If you are planning a remodel, installing a Level 2 EV charger, adding a hot tub, or upgrading major appliances, a panel upgrade may be necessary to support the load safely.

How Long Do Electrical Panels Last?

Most electrical panels last between 25 and 40 years. However, lifespan depends on installation quality, usage, environmental conditions, and whether the panel was designed for today’s energy demands.

In a fast-growing city like Austin, many homes built in the 1980s and 1990s were not designed for current electrical consumption levels. If your panel is approaching the 30-year mark, it is wise to schedule an inspection.

If you are buying a home or planning renovations, an electrical evaluation should be part of your due diligence.

Are Fuse Boxes Safe?

Fuse boxes were common before the 1960s, but they are no longer suitable for modern energy needs.

Unlike circuit breakers, fuses must be replaced after they blow. More importantly, they are not designed to support today’s high-demand appliances. This increases the risk of overheating and electrical fires.

Modern breaker panels automatically shut off power during overloads or short circuits. This protects:

  • Your home from electrical fires
  • Your appliances from damage
  • Your family from electrical hazards

If your Austin home still has a fuse box, upgrading to a breaker panel should be a priority.

Signs You Need an Electrical Panel Upgrade

An outdated or failing panel can present serious safety risks. If you notice any of the following warning signs, contact a licensed electrician immediately.

Overheating or Burning Smell

A burning odor coming from the panel or outlets may indicate melting wires or overloaded circuits. This is a serious hazard that requires immediate attention.

Rust or Moisture Inside the Panel

Water intrusion can damage breakers and create unsafe electrical conditions. Rust inside your panel is a clear sign it needs evaluation or replacement.

Frequent Breaker Trips

If breakers trip when running appliances such as your air conditioner, dryer, or microwave, your panel may be undersized. Most modern homes require a 200-amp panel. Larger homes or homes with EV chargers may require 400 amps.

Flickering or Dimming Lights

House-wide flickering that occurs regardless of weather conditions can signal panel capacity issues or loose connections.

Crackling or Popping Noises

A properly functioning panel may produce a faint hum. Crackling or popping sounds indicate electricity is arcing where it should not, which can cause fire hazards.

What to Expect During a Panel Upgrade in Austin

Our process is straightforward and designed to minimize disruption.

  1. In-home assessment to evaluate current capacity and future needs
  2. Load calculation to determine proper panel size
  3. Permit coordination with the City of Austin
  4. Safe removal of the existing panel
  5. Installation of a new code-compliant breaker panel
  6. Inspection approval and system testing

Depending on your home’s condition, additional upgrades such as service entrance cable replacement, grounding improvements, or breaker upgrades may be recommended.

Most panel upgrades can be completed in a single day.

Why Austin Homeowners Upgrade Their Electrical Panels

Electrical panel upgrades are often postponed because homeowners assume everything is fine as long as power works. However, upgrading is an investment in safety and long-term reliability.

Benefits include:

  • Significantly reduced fire risk
  • Capacity for EV chargers and solar integration
  • Higher resale value
  • Better insurance compliance
  • Fewer nuisance breaker trips
  • Improved overall system efficiency

As Austin continues to grow and modernize, electrical capacity has become a critical component of home value and performance.

EV Chargers and Panel Upgrades in Austin

With electric vehicle ownership rising across Austin, many homeowners discover their existing panel cannot support a Level 2 EV charger.

Installing a 240-volt charging circuit often requires additional capacity. If your current panel is already near maximum load, upgrading to a 200-amp or 400-amp service may be required before installing your EV charging station.

Our electricians evaluate your total home load to ensure safe and compliant installation.

Electrical Panel Replacement vs. Panel Repair

Sometimes minor repairs can extend the life of a panel. However, if your system is outdated, recalled, damaged, or insufficient for modern demands, full replacement is usually the safest long-term solution.

We provide honest assessments so you can make an informed decision without pressure.
